Temporarily returning to closed beta in preparation for next release

The response has been overwhelming and we are excited to integrate the feedback from hundreds of thousands of existing beta testers. In order to take Mobile Defense to the next level, we are suspending new beta signups while we go heads-down on the next release. We appreciate everyone’s support and patience.

This is by far the most necessary app on my phone… I’ve been a MD user since day 1, but recently I began receiving a log in error that said my credentials didn’t match.. Now I’m getting the same basic response on the mobile defense website as well… HELP!

  • 8

@Loren There are currently no issue with the authentication system and the only time you’ll see this message is when your login credentials are incorrect. Try reseting your password and make sure you’re using the correct email address. If you’re still having trouble, post a message on the support forum and we’ll investigate. http://support.mobiledefense.com

I have already signed up for the wait list, however I was wondering about how long I will I have to wait before I can complete my registration? Thanks in advance :)

  • 10

Any news on when we will be able to download next? Been on the waiting list for a while and Im excited to install it when it becomes available. Thanks!

  • 13

I have been using this since I got my Eris about 6 months ago. It was stolen at a restauraunt and the staff let me use their computer to try and track it. We found that kids in the parking lot had taken it right off my table. I got it back thanks to Mobile Defense!I recently purchased a new Droid X and I wouldnt take it outside the house until I installed Mobile Defense ;) Thanks guys!

I installed MD on my Moto Droid when i first got it months ago but it broke down on me 2 weeks ago and got another one and reinstalled it. When i had MD on my old Droid i was able to enable the gps to track it down but can’t anymore, why is that? That was the BEST part of having MD :(

  • 15

@Jairo Nothing has changed. If Mobile Defense is installed as a system app it will auto-enable GPS.

  • 16

I tried it last night and just right now. It only tracks my phone down if I enable gps on my phone myself. I wait until the countdown is done but still nothing and when I have the gps enabled it tracks it down within a minute. Would it make a difference if I had installed MD on my 1st Droid from Android Market, and 2nd time directly from the website since it isn’t available anymore? I can’t lock my phone through the MD website either :( the little icon just keeps going :(

  • 17

@Jairo If you need help troubleshooting your issue please use the support forum: http://support.mobiledefense.comIt sounds like you don’t have MD installed as a system app. The lock was changed in Android 2.2 and, as a result, you’ll need the MD 2.0 client to use the new admin features.

  • 18

When wil the new version be out?

  • 19

In meantime there is another app u can use, wheres my droid. It tracks via text message. Sends gps coords back. Still not as good as md. as soon as new md is out i reccomend all get this phone app

  • 20

I had mobile defense on previous phone i have upgraded to evo will i be able to reinstall. At this time. phone is 2.2. Noticed that jairo was having issues reinstalling through website will i encounter the same problem and any tips on what i need to do to minimize any issues.

  • 21

i am waiting for registration to open .. hope its soon .. i want this app NOW ..

  • 22

Hello,It looks like this app of yours is market leader by far.Now wouldn’t it be nice if I could download and install it as well? :D Any idea when it will be available?I’m hoping not to have to install another app for the ‘in between time’.Thanks.Chip

  • 23

We understand everyone is excited to use Mobile Defense and we sincerely appreciate your patience. There is a lot going on behind the scenes and we are working tirelessly to ensure MD 2.0 is the best release to date. We currently have a group of alpha testers using MD 2.0 and all of the core features for this release are complete. Things have been delayed a bit because we are working with a couple industry partners on some yet to be announced initiatives. If you’re on the wait list you will receive notification via email when we began accepting new users.

  • 24

So I have been a user now for about a year and I have used MD to find my phone in two airports and by using the alarm with pin convince people to return it to the lost and found. Back in the 2.1 days I could also lock my phone as well and I am pretty sure you are all working on restoring that in 2.2 correct? Also I see on the splash page the pic shows a wipe function. Will this work for all 2.2 devices? Can’t wait to see the magic in action. Thanks for all your hard work.

  • 25

@Bill Glad to hear you’ve found Mobile Defense useful. If you have time, please share your success stories on our forum: http://support.mobiledefense.com/viewforum.php?id=8The remote lock feature broke in MD 1.2.5 because of API changes in Android 2.2. MD 2.x.x uses the new device admin APIs to support remote lock and wipe for all Android 2.2+ devices.

Any eta on opening the beta again? This month… this year, etc?

  • 27

@Deslok We’re on a strict diet of implement then announce for all new releases. See my 09/26 comment above for more info.

I am very excited to get this on my phone. I was a long time iPhone user (used mobileme) and recently switched to the amazing Droid X. Left my phone last night in a taxi and didn’t have any real way to track my phone without my mobileme. I know there are other programs out there but after reading about this program I am very excited to get this. Keep plugging and hopefully you guys can release soon. I am definately willing to pay to purchase this!! (on a side note some guys just found me by calling verizon and was nice enough to give my phone back to me but this may very well not be the case next time)

  • 29

Having a hard time understanding why your service is being actively advertised during NFL games all day Sunday October 17, 2010 but your website says you will not download it and to “check back later”. Did Verizon/Motorola Android jump the gun on you or what?

  • 30

Hey im really interested i this in it would be really helpful for me , i was wonderin if u have any idea or guess when it would be ready to downloand and istall again?

  • 31

Hello – when MD is rolled out in full again, is there any chance it will also have virus protection functionality? Like Lookout? Or is MD still going to be strictly for lost/stolen phone assistance? I’ve been using it for months and now have a new phone, but would like to get a virus protection program, as well as a lost/stolen program – all in one, if possible.

  • 32

Okay, it’s been 5 months since you went “closed beta”. With Android adding approximately 160,000 new users per day, don’t you think you’re missing the greatest opportunity for new subscribers? If you don’t get this up and running soon, many of them will be looking for another app…..

  • 33

Be nice to see an iphone version

  • 34

I had hoped by now you would at least have had a published release date…Why so secretive???If I don’t hear something soon, I will shoot this puppy… :)

  • 35

Its december… any update? I am patiently waiting…:)

  • 36

So here’s the deal. It’s been 6 months without any comment or update on the progress of your program. This doesn’t breed more interest, but instead turns people to competitors that are freely available. I’m sure at least 75% of the people who signed up for the beta did so needing your services soon. Since they did not receive that, they most likely turned to a competitor. And as any good businessperson knows, attracting customers from competitors is one of the hardest things to accomplish in business. Just as SocialScope, who promised an industry changing solution to social networking for Blackberrys. With their quiet and extended private beta, people turned to Ubertwitter and eventually the native Facebook and Twitter clients. You need to give people an update. You can only stamp the awards and commendations for so long before people give up on you.Just a little update would be extremely beneficial, and would definitely create more buzz. You need to think beyond code and in to the realm of business.

Hi, I was wondering now that we’re almost to *2011* if you’re any closer to releasing the new version of Mobile Defense. I would be a new user and MD is my first choice for gps tracking my phone, but nothing has been posted to indicate a release is within sight. Please let me know even a rough estimate, since it appears that months have passed since anything has been mentioned. Thank you!

  • 38

So there hasnt been any updates in a long time. I would really like mobile defense but i am about to give up on it. Is there ever going to be open registration again? Or a non beta version?

  • 39

It’s been more than 6 months now. I am still waiting. When the registrations will resume? :-( (

  • 40

Just curious where things are with MD. No blog posts for 8 months… what’s going on? Can I rely on MD or is it being shuttered?
